Will wide receiver Robert Meachem be one of the unsung heroes for the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl XLIV?
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Saints a 4.5-point underdog against the Indianapolis Colts in the 2010 Super Bowl. Along with game odds, Sports Interaction is also offering player prop odds on receiver Robert Meachem, which can be found below.
Meachem caught 45 passes for 722 yards and tied for the team-led in touchdowns with nine in his third season with the Saints. His breakout performance came in the Saints’ Week 13 win over the Redskins in Washington when he caught eight passes for 142 yards and a touchdown. He also scored another touchdown to end the first half when he stripped a defender and ran it back 44 yards to the end zone. It was arguably one of the best plays of the season for any team in the NFL.
Meachem was held without a catch in the Saints’ 45-14 route over the Cardinals in the Divisional Round, although he did haul in two passes for 19 yards in New Orleans’ 31-28 overtime victory over the Vikings in Super Bowl XLIV.
Meachem has been quiet so far in the postseason, but there is some value to be had in his prop odds for the 2010 Super Bowl. For example, a winning wager on the “over” for total number of receptions (which has been set at 3) for Meachem would net a bettor +115 on the money line. He only has two receptions thus far, but in six of his last nine games during the regular season, he caught over three passes, so it stands to reason that he will be involved in the offense.
Another prop wager with value is whether or not Meachem will get a rushing attempt in Super Bowl XLIV. A winning wager on “yes” would net a bettor +180 on the money line, which is certainly a possibility since Meachem has had at least one carry in three of his last six games including the playoffs. That’s only 50%, but you’re getting +180 on the money line, which represents value.
