The New York Rangers hope that the addition of Marian Gaborik will help take them from a bubble playoff team to a Stanley Cup contender in 2009-2010.

GM Glen Sather opened his wallet this summer with the additions of Gaborik, Chris Higgins, Ales Kotalik, Enver Lisin, Donald Brashear, Alexexi Semenov, Brian Boyle and Vaclav Prospal.

None of those signings will arguably make the impact that Gaborik will, although his injury concerns are, well, a concern. He could change the fate of the Rangers’ bleak offense around if he can stay healthy, but that’s a big if.

New York will continue to be led by goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who has averaged 36 wins and has been a Vezina finalist three times in the last four seasons. He hasn’t had much offensive support, however, which is maddening considering how good this team could be with Lundqvist in net.

Oddsmakers from online sports book BetOnline have made the Rangers 28/1 to win the 2010 Stanley Cup and 14/1 to win the Eastern Conference.
