WAS-DET Free Pick
The Detroit Lions have the longest losing streak in the NFL dating to last year at 0-18. The Lions will once again be on the search for a victory when they host the Washington Redskins at Ford Field on Sunday.
The Redskins earned their first victory of the season last week in beating the Rams 9-7. Jason Campbell passed for 242 yards and Clinton Portis rushed for 79 yards on 19 carries, but Washington failed to cover the 10-point spread as favorites.
The Lions dropped to 0-2 on the year following a 27-13 loss to the Vikings at home. Rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 152 yards and a touchdown, although he threw two interceptions too. Calvin Johnson caught five passes for 51 yards and a touchdown as Detroit failed to cover the spread as a 10-point underdog.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Lions 6.5-point underdogs against the Redskins on Sunday. The over/under total for this game has been set at 38.5.
While the Lions are hardly a team to back, the Redskins’ offensive performance was dismal last week at home. While Washington has more than enough talent to earn a victory, we worry about head coach Jim Zorn calling another conservative game plan and failing to cover the spread.
The Lions started off with a 10-0 lead last week before the Vikings wore them down in the second half. Turnovers once again doomed Stafford so if he can keep the mistakes to a minimum, Detroit will keep things close throughout the game.
We suggest taking the Lions and the points, as well as the under. The total has gone under in four of Washington’s last five games when playing Detroit.
Our NFL Week 3 Free Pick for this game is: DETROIT LIONS +6.5 and UNDER 38.5.
