2012 MLS Season Odds to Win

(The Spread) – The odds are out of the 2012 MLS season and the Los Angeles Galaxy are the outright winner favorite heading into the new year.

According to oddsmakers, the Galaxy are the clear cut favorite to win the 2012 MLS season “outright.” They have odds of 15/8 while the team with the next best odds is the Seattle Sounders at 5/1. The Real Salt Lake (7/1), FC Dallas (8/1), Sporting Kansas City (8/1), Colorado Rapids (12/1), Houston Dynamo (12/1), New York Red Bulls (12/1), Columbus Crew (18/1) and the Philadelphia Union (18/1) round out the top 10.

The mid-range long shots to win this season are the Chicago Fire at 25/1, the Portland Timbers at 25/1, the Toronto FC at 28/1, the New England Revolution at 33/1 and the San Jose Earthquakes at 33/1. The long shots are the Chivas USA at 40/1, the Montreal Impact at 66/1, and the Vancouver Whitecaps at 66/1.

The Galaxy won the MLS Trophy in 2011 and also won in 2002 and 2005. The Colorado Rapids won the MLS title in 2010 while the Real Salt Lake won in 2009. The Columbus Crew won in 2008 while the Houston Dynamo won in back-to-back years in 2006 and 2007. Outside of the D.C. United who won in 1996 and 1997, the Dynamo were the only other team to win in back-to-back years so the Galaxy don’t have history on their side in terms of repeating as MLS champions.

The 2012 MLS season is the 100^th season of FIFA-sanctioned soccer, the 34^th season with a national first-division league in the United States and Canada, and the 17^th season of Major League Soccer. The season will run from March throughout October and will culminate with a 2012 MLS Cup Playoffs.
