CHICAGO, IL (The Spread) – Could Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota be selected with the No. 2 overall pick in next month’s draft?
It’s important to take every draft rumor this time of year with a grain of salt but if you enjoy taking a ride on the rumor mill then CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora has a doozy for you.
La Canfora has become “convinced” that Mariota will go No. 2 overall in next month’s draft. The Tennessee Titans currently own that pick but they could trade out if some team is desperate for quarterback help and they view Mariota as a fit. For what it’s worth, the Saints, Rams, Browns, Eagles and Chargers have all been connected to Mariota over the last few weeks.
The conesnus has become that Jameis Winston will be selected with the No. 1 overall pick, which belongs to the Tampa Bay Bucs. They could always surprise, but they released Josh McCown over a month ago and they desperately need a franchise quarterback. Where Mariota will fall has become the more intriguing storyline and if you buy into what La Canfora is selling, he won’t have to wait long to hear his name read next month.
