According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Rodriguez’s odds of playing in at least one Major League Baseball game in 2015 are -150 on the money line. the odds against him playing in at least one game are +110, so oddsmakers like A-Rod’s chances of suiting up again once his suspension is lifted.
Last weekend, Bob Nigtengale of USA Today reported that arbitrator Fredric Horowitz had ruled that Rodriguez would receive a 162-game suspension for the upcoming 2014 season. The initial ban for Rodriguez was 211 games, so the ruling could have been viewed as a small win for A-Rod’s crew. Then again, it was immediately announced that Rodriguez planned to fight the reduced sentence, so clearly nobody in his party has done any celebrating.
According to Wallance Matthews of ESPN New York, Rodriguez still has every intention of reporting to spring training with the Yankees. Seeing as though he has no season to prepare for, the club may tell him to stay home but it has become apparent that A-Rod isn’t going down without a fight. If the Yankees tell him to avoid spring training, then Rodriguez may once again put the club in his crosshairs.
Bovada.lv currently lists the Yankees at 14/1 to win the 2014 World Series after they opened at 16/1. With A-Rod’s suspension, the team will get salary relief for the upcoming season, relief that is expected to be used on starting pitching. The Bombers still need to add two more starters and 25-year-old international player Masahiro Tanaka would go a long way in helping them fill their needs.
