(The Spread) – Jeff Fisher’s days in Tennessee are numbered and soon enough, so will quarterback Vince Young’s.

After 16 years together, Fisher and the Titans mutually decided to part ways on Thursday night. Fisher had been the most tenured head coach in the NFL and was the first head coach in Titans history. He was due $6.5 million in 2011 and while some reports stated that he would receive an $8 million parting gift, those rumors appear to have been exaggerated.
On Friday, Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt confirmed that the team still plans to trade or release Vince Young. The former first round pick has a winning record in Tennessee, but he has shown major maturity issues and the Titans’ front office is leery of his leadership skills (or lack thereof). He’s owned $8.5 million in base salary in 2011, so it’ll be hard for the team to trade him. It’s likely that he’ll be released before his $4.25 million roster bonus comes due in March.
The speculation is that Young could wind up in Minnesota, but the Vikings are more likely to draft a quarterback as Leslie Frazier tries to get settled into his first head coaching role. Ryan Mallett, Blaine Gabbert, Cam Newton and even TCU’s Andy Dalton are options for Minnesota in April’s draft.
As for Fisher’s future plans, it’s unclear at this point if he’ll return to the sidelines in 2011 or if he’ll head into broadcasting. If does decide to return to coaching, one option may be Philadelphia where he can work with Andy Reid as a defensive coach.
