CINCINNATI, OH (The Spread) – Despite losing their best hitter, the Cincinnati Reds’ 2012 World Series odds remain the same as they were a day ago.
Oddsmakers currently list the Reds’ World Series odds at 12/1, which are the same odds that they were a day ago before Joey Votto’s knee injury became public. Cincinnati’s 2012 NL Pennant odds are the same as well at 11/2. The Reds opened as 25/1 long shots to win the 2012 Fall Classic and 15/1 to win this year’s pennant.
Votto was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 16, with a torn medial meniscus in his left knee. He underwent successful surgery on Tuesday and he’ll be sidelined for the next 3-4 weeks, which places his return in mid-to-late August. Todd Frazier will likely see plenty of time at first base while Votto is out.
Votto’s injury might open the door for the defending World Series champion Cardinals to win the National League Central. The Cardinals are currently 20/1 to win the 2012 World Series and 8/1 to win the National League pennant this year.
That said, St. Louis continues to have issues in its bullpen and despite having good stats, the Cardinals’ offense hasn’t been very good of late either. Lance Berkman just came off the disabled list but it’ll likely take him a couple of weeks to find his stroke, especially seeing as how he refused to go on a minor league rehab assignment before coming back.
