ST. LOUIS, MO (The Spread) – Less than a week ago the St. Louis Cardinals had the best record in Major League Baseball and now they’re not even in first place.

In the midst of a seven-game losing streak, the Cardinals’ odds to win the 2013 World Series have dropped slightly from 7/1 down to 15/2. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Tigers remain favored to win the World Series at 6/1, although now they’re followed by the Braves (7/1) and Dodgers (7/1) as opposed to the Cardinals.
Following their sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies in St. Louis, the Cardinals began the road trip from hell starting in Atlanta last Friday. After being swept by the Braves by a combined score of 11-3 over the span of three games, the Cardinals have lost four straight games in Pittsburgh. Adding injury to insult, St. Louis recently had to place catcher Yadier Molina on the disabled list with a knee injury.
Molina had fluid drained and received a cortisone shot for his ailing right knee, although the Cardinals received good news on Wednesday when the catcher’s MRI came back clean. But while there’s no major damage to the knee, the fact that Molina has to miss time at all is devastating to a team that is in a massive funk. And if there’s one player the Cardinals can ill-afford to lose during any point, it would be Molina.
