Hansen Derby Preview & Odds
LOUISVILLE, KY (The Spread) – With four wins in six starts, Hansen looks to upset the field this Saturday at the 2012 Kentucky Derby.
According to oddsmakers, Hansen is 14/1 to win this year’s Kentucky Derby while Bodemeister and Union Rags are 7/2 to win, receptively. Gemologist has the next best odds at 7/1 while Dullahan is 8/1 to win.
Hansen is coming off a second place finish at the Grade I Blue Grass on April 14. He won the Grade III Gotham on March 3, placed second at the Grade III Holy Bull on January 29 and won back-to-back outings at the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on November 5 and the Kentucky Cup Juvenile on September 24. His other victory came in a MSW on September 9.
Dr. Kendall Hansen & Sky Chai Racing own Hansen while Mike Maker is his trainer and Ramon Dominguez is his jockey. Dominguez earned $19,364,256 in 2011 and led the nation in number of victories in 2001 and 2003, respectively. That said, he has yet to win a Kentucky Derby.
