2012 Kentucky Derby Odds
LOUISVILLE, KY (The Spread) – It’s that time of year again – Triple Crown racing is back! With the 2012 Kentucky Derby less than a week away, let’s check out the odds.
Oddsmakers have installed two opening favorites for this year’s Kentucky Derby. Bodemeister and Union Rags are currently 9/2 to win, respectively, while Gemologist has the next best odds at 7/1. Dullahan is 8/1, Alpha and Creative Cause are 11/1, respectively, while Hansen is 14/1.
Bodemeister has raced four times this year, winning two of those races and placing second in his other two outings. He’s coming off a victory at the Grade I Arkansas Derby on April 14 and finished second at the Grade II San Felipe on March 10.
Meanwhile, Union Rags has four victories in his last six races dating back to July of last year. He’s coming off a third place showing at the Grade I Florida Derby on March 31 and also finished first at the Grade II Fountain of Youth on February 26. Those were his only two races of this year, although he did place second at the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on November 5 of last year and won both the Grade I Champagne on October 8 and the Grade II Saratoga Special on August 15.
Continuing with the odds, Daddy Nose Best and I’ll Have Another are both 15/1 to win this year’s Kentucky Derby, respectively, while El Padrino and Take Charge Indy are 16/1, respectively. Went The Day Well is 18/1, Mark Valeski is 23/1 and Daddy Long Legs is 30/1.
Some of the long shots include Sabercat at 35/1, Liaison, My Adonis and Rousing Sermon at 40/1, respectively, and Trinniberg at 45/1. Done Talking and Prospective are 50/1, respectively, while Optimizer is 60/1 and Hero of Order is 100/1.
