ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -The Minnesota Wild have assigned Petr Sykora (PEE’-tuhr sih-KOH’-rah) to their minor league affiliate, the next step toward cutting ties with the right wing.
Sykora was sent to the Houston Aeros on Wednesday, before Minnesota’s game against the Detroit Red Wings. Sykora, a native of the Czech Republic, is not expected to show up to the AHL club.
The 33-year-old veteran of 935 NHL games who has 302 career goals was waived by the Wild last week, but went unclaimed.
Sykora had 25 goals in 60 games last season for the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, but he missed time with a concussion and find a home in Minnesota’s lineup. He had two goals and one assist in 14 games for the Wild.
