NEW YORK (AP) -After further review, New York Rangers forward Brendan Shanahan has his first two-goal game of the season and 1,300 career points in the NHL.
Originally, the go-ahead goal in New York’s 3-1 win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday night was credited to Rangers captain Jaromir Jagr, who fired a shot at Lightning goalie Johan Holmqvist with 9:15 left in the game. But following a long review in New York and at league offices in Toronto, it was determined Thursday that the drive struck Shanahan’s skate as he glided in front of the crease.
Shanahan, who scored another power-play goal 2:44 later, has three goals this season and 630 during his 20 NHL years. Combined with 670 assists, Shanahan has a total of 1,300 points in 1,428 games.
Jagr, who has scored only two goals this season, was instead credited with an assist as was defenseman Michal Rozsival. An assist was taken away from Chris Drury.
