PITTSBURGH (AP) -Penguins forward Gary Roberts will sit out Friday night’s second-round playoff game against the New York Rangers with a groin injury.
The same problem forced the 41-year-old Roberts to miss the final two games of Pittsburgh’s first-round sweep of Ottawa. Roberts scored two goals in the first game of that series.
Roberts decided he couldn’t play after going through the team’s morning skate Friday.
“It’s Gary’s call,” Penguins coach Michel Therrien said. “We’re disappointed that he’s not able to play, but we have to respect that decision.”
Roberts played only once during the second half of the regular season after breaking a leg and spraining an ankle Dec. 29 against Buffalo.
