EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) – Florida Panthers defenseman Jay Bouwmeester pleaded guilty to one count of impaired driving.
Judge Michael Allen fined the player $1,000 Tuesday and banned him from driving for a year.
The 23-year-old Bouwmeester, who makes $2.25 million this year, was arrested during the summer of 2006 near a popular nightclub area in Edmonton. He was charged with impaired driving and operating a motor vehicle when he had a blood-alcohol level of more than .08.
Police said an off-duty officer had seen Bouwmeester’s vehicle swerving.
