ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -The Minnesota Wild activated center Mikko Koivu from injured reserve before Friday night’s game at Chicago.
Koivu missed 24 games after a two-handed slash to the back of his leg by Vancouver defenseman Mattias Ohlund during a game on Nov. 16. Ohlund drew a four-game suspension from the NHL, and Koivu suffered a broken bone in his leg.
The sixth overall pick in the 2001 draft, Koivu was on the verge of a breakthrough season – his third with the Wild – before the injury. He had five goals, 11 assists and a plus-five rating in 19 games.
To make room on the roster, the Wild put center Dominic Moore on waivers. Moore, who had one goal and two assists in 30 games, was claimed by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
