LOS ANGELES (AP) -Luc Robitaille, the highest-scoring left wing in NHL history, was promoted Friday to president of business operations by the Los Angeles Kings – the team for which he starred for 14 seasons.
Robitaille has been working as the team’s assistant to the governor and alternate governor since retiring at the end of the 2005-06 season.
“I have invested so much of myself into this organization since I was drafted here in 1984 and I look forward to the opportunity to truly have an impact on our future success,” Robitaille said in a statement. “I have gained tremendous experience this past year with AEG (Anschutz Entertainment Group) and the Kings, and I look forward to continued growth as a business professional in this great city.”
Robitaille will work with general manager Dean Lombardi and oversee the day-to-day business operations of the Kings.
“This is a critical step for AEG to give the Kings stand-alone leadership and staffing that does nothing but focus on the Kings,” AEG president Tim Leiweke said.
Robitaille played in 19 NHL seasons. He had 668 goals and 726 assists in 1,431 regular-season games for the Kings, Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins. He was a member of Detroit’s Stanley Cup-winning team in 2002.
The Kings retired his No. 20 last January.
