ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -The Minnesota Wild started a new era on Friday with the introduction of Chuck Fletcher as the second general manager in franchise history.
The former Pittsburgh assistant GM says fans will see plenty of changes under his direction, starting with a more uptempo style of play.
He sums up his philosophy by asking “why back up and cede ice to your opponent when you can force the issue up the ice?”
Fletcher replaces Doug Risebrough, who was fired in April after building the expansion team from the ground up.
Owner Craig Leipold calls Fletcher “the total package.”
Fletcher says he will begin interviewing candidates for the coaching vacancy next week and hopes to make a decision by next month’s draft.
