GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -The Phoenix Coyotes traded goaltender Alex Auld to the Boston Bruins on Thursday in exchange for a minor league player and a fifth-round pick in the 2009 NHL draft.
The move came the day after Boston starter Tim Thomas was injured and had to leave a game against New Jersey after falling awkwardly while trying to snare a deflected shot with 1:10 left in regulation of an overtime loss. Thomas was listed as out of the Bruins lineup with a lower body injury for their game against Montreal on Thursday night.
The Coyotes get Nate DiCasmirro, a 29-year-old forward who has played 20 games this season with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
The 26-year-old Auld was 3-6-0 with a 3.54 goals-against average and one shutout in nine games with the Coyotes this season, his first with Phoenix. He was signed as a free agent on Aug. 13. He has appeared in a 117 NHL games with Vancouver, Florida and Phoenix.
