ST. LOUIS (AP) -The St. Louis Blues switched backup goalies on Sunday, recalling rookie Ben Bishop from Peoria of the American Hockey League and assigning Marek Schwarz to Peoria.
The 6-foot-7 Bishop, 21, is 2-2 with a .901 save percentage and 2.44 goals-against average in five games at Peoria. He grew up in St. Louis, attending Chaminade High School for three years, and was a third-round draft pick in 2005.
Bishop signed with the Blues in March after three seasons at the University of Maine, which he helped lead to an NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis in 2007.
Schwarz, 22, is 0-1 with an .839 save percentage at Peoria. He was a first-round pick in the 2004 draft.
The Blues’ regular backup, Chris Mason, is expected to be out two weeks after undergoing an emergency appendectomy Friday.
