Blue Jackets won’t confirm reports of firing of MacLean

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -The Columbus Blue Jackets would not confirm reports Thursday that they have fired president-general manager Doug MacLean.
The Canadian Press cited an anonymous source Wednesday night as saying the 53-year-old MacLean had been fired. He is the only president-GM the team has had.
“I’m aware of those reports, but we have nothing to say about them tonight,” Blue Jackets spokesman Todd Sharrock told The Associated Press.
CP reported MacLean was relieved of his duties after the Blue Jackets stumbled to a 33-42-7 record, 11th in the Western Conference. The Blue Jackets are the only franchise to never make the playoffs, and have endured six straight losing seasons.
Before his time in Columbus, he served as head coach of the Florida Panthers team that made an improbable run to the Stanley Cup finals in 1996, where they were swept by Colorado.
