COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -The Columbus Blue Jackets recalled goaltender Steve Mason from the Ontario Hockey League’s Kitchener Rangers and left wing Joakim Lindstrom from Syracuse of the AHL on Wednesday.
The club also reassigned defenseman Duvie Westcott to Syracuse and signed left wing Jason Chimera to a four-year contract extension through the 2011-12 season. Terms were not disclosed.
Mason will back up Fredrik Norrena in the absence of goaltender Pascal Leclaire, who is expected to miss at least two games with a bruised neck suffered during Tuesday night’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Washington Capitals.
Mason, 19, has a record of 22-6-3 with a 2.79 goals-against average, .914 save percentage and three shutouts in 31 OHL games. In January, he was named the MVP at the 2008 World Junior Championships after leading Canada to its fourth straight gold medal. Mason was Columbus’ second pick, and 69th overall, in the 2006 draft.
Jackets this season, scoring two goals with four assists. A second-round pick in 2002, he has three goals and four assists in 23 career NHL games.
Westcott has experienced headaches throughout the season as a result of a concussion suffered early in the year.
