Balanced scoring sends Wild to win
Despite putting up a big number on the scoreboard in their 6-2 victory in Game 3, no one on the Wild scored more than one goal as contributions instead came from many sources. Matt Dumba, Mikael Granlund and Eric Staal all had a goal and an assist. Marcus Foligno, Jordan Greenway and Zach Parise also notched a goal. Mikko Koivu and Nick Seeler each dished out two assists. Behind them, goaltender Devan Dubnyk saved 29 of 31 shots to earn the win. Minnesota is at its best when it isn’t relying on one or two players to be score machines. Game 3 was a perfect example of that.
Hellesbuyck gets yanked
Winnipeg 24-year-old goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was stellar in the first two games on his home ice in leading the way to two victories. But he took a considerable step back in Game 3, allowing six goals on 22 shots before being pulled late in the second period. Steve Mason came in and stopped all seven shots sent his way. All indications are that Hellesbuyck will return to guard the net tonight, but it’s something to monitor in the hours before the game.
NHL Betting Trends
Winnipeg
The Jets are 8-1 in their last nine games against a team with a winning record. The home team is 5-0 in the last five meetings.
Minnesota
The Wild are 0-5 in their last five games following a win. Minnesota is 2-6 in the last eight meetings.
Prediction:
Winnipeg has had pretty good success in recent years against the Wild, last game notwithstanding. I’m going to say the Jets bounce back here with an impressive performance against a Minesota team that has struggled to put two wins together recently.
