Caps hold off Flyers
Washington secured a 5-3 home victory Tuesday night over Philadelphia to improve to 26-12-4 on the season. Tom Wilson opened the scoring for Washington in the first period with his 13th goal of the season on an assist from Jakub Vrana. The Flyers evened it at 1-1 through one period, while the Capitals pushed it to a 4-1 game with a big second period. T.J. Oshie made it a 2-1 game on assists by Lars Eller and John Carlson, while Vrana scored an unassisted goal to give Washington a two-goal cushion. Vrana added a power play goal with 4:05 left in the second with assists going to Travis Boyd and Carlson. Philadephia trimmed it to 4-3 with seven seconds remaining in the contest with its second goal of the third period, but with three seconds left Oshie added an insurance goal shorthanded to officially clinch it. Pheonix Copley made 37 saves on 40 shots in the winning effort.
Bruins shut out Wild
Boston won for the fifth straight time Tuesday night at home with a 4-0 triumph over Minnesota. Danton Heinen opened the scoring 5:23 into the contest on assists by John Moore and Torey Krug. Brad Marchand made it 2-0 with assists going to Patrice Bergeron and Moore. Jake DeBrusk scored with 45 seconds left in the first period on the power play with assists courtesy of Bergeron and Marchand. Bergeron added the final goal of the contest on the power play in the second period off assists by Marchand and Krug. Tuukka Rask saved all 24 shots sent his way to post the shutout.
NHL Betting Trends
Washington
The Capitals are 6-0 in their last six meetings in Boston. Washington is 22-6 in the last 28 meetings overall.
Boston
The Bruins are 21-8 in their last 29 Thursday games. Boston is 38-13 in its last 51 home games.
Prediction:
Washington has had Boston’s number the last several seasons, but the Bruins are arguably playing the better hockey right now as the last two Capitals wins were preceded by three defeats. But on the other hand, the Bruins are due for a loss and this is the defending Stanley Cup champions we’re talking about. In this case, I’m going to go with the trends and take a shot at plus money on one of the NHL’s elite teams on the road.
