Rangers vs. Capitals NHL Prediction
The Rangers will open their season in Washington on Wednesday night against a team in the Capitals that they’ve had issues with in previous meetings. Will that be the case again tonight from a betting standpoint?

The New York Rangers have signed center Mika Zibanejad to an eight-year/$68 million contract extension. The deal will kick in starting next season for the top Rangers center. The move should eliminate all thoughts that Jack Eichel will be heading to the Rangers. Zibanejad had 24 goals and 50 points last season in 56 games after picking up 75 points the previous campaign in only 57 contests. The Rangers likely went a year or two too long on the deal but that is what they had to do to retain the services of Zibanejad. Look for an 85-90 point season if he remains healthy.

Coach Peter Laviolette said Monday that the team is “hoping” that Alex Ovechkin (lower body) will be available to play in Wednesday’s season opener. “Again, it’s still day to day,” said Laviolette. “So we’ll work through that until we get to that.” Ovechkin didn’t practice on Sunday and Monday after he suffered a lower-body injury in Friday’s preseason finale.
