Penguins fall at Kings
Pittsburgh was slowed down Saturday night at Los Angeles by a count of 5-2 as it fell to 25-14-6 on the season. Jake Guentzel gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead on a shorthanded goal in the first period off assists from Sidney Crosby and Jack Johnson. The Kings proceeded to score the game’s next four goals into the final period before Guentzel cut it to 4-2 with his second goal of the game as 10:40 remained. Phil Kessel and Evgeni Malkin drew assists. Los Angeles scored the clincher on an empty net goal with 47 seconds remaining. Casey DeSmith made 20 saves on 24 shots in the loss.
Sharks win sixth straight
San Jose kept its winning streak going Saturday night with a 4-1 home victory over Ottawa. Joe Pavelski broke a scoreless tie with 2:03 left in the second period on his 26th goal of the season. Tomas Hertl and Brenden Dillon recorded assists. Brent Burns made it a 2-0 game in the third off assists from Justin Braun and Kevin Leblanc, while the Senators cut the score in half 27 seconds later. Joe Thornton pushed it to a two-goal lead with 4:17 left off assists by Timo Maier and Burns. Melker Karlsson later added an unassisted insurance goal. Martin Jones stopped 27 of 28 shots sent his way to post the win.

Both of these offenses have the ability to explode on any given night. Why not both on the same night? I could see this easily being the kind of game that is 4-4 going to overtime. Expect the explosiveness and creativity of the offensive talent to overwhelm the defenses. I’m taking the over tonight in what should be an entertaining game for us, the viewers.
