Sidney Crosby scored his 500th career goal in Tuesday’s 5-4 overtime win over the Philadelphia Flyers. It would have been poetic if Crosby had scored the overtime game-winner for No. 500, but things weren’t quite to that level of storybook narrative on Tuesday. His milestone goal instead came on a power-play opportunity against Carter Hart near the end of the first period. With it, Crosby became the 46th player in NHL history to hit the illustrious mark. He would loop back around for an assist on a crucial third-period goal by Jake Guentzel after the Penguins had fallen down 4-2 heading into the final 20 minutes of regulation. After coming back from wrist surgery, Crosby has now posted 14 goals and 46 points in just 37 games played this season.
