Blues vs. Stars Pick
According to oddsmakers at YouWager, the Stars are a -145 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Blues are a +125 underdog, while the total is set at 5.5 goals. Dallas opened as a -140 favorite before the line increased slightly.
As of Friday afternoon, 57 percent of public bets have sided with the Stars. Online wager info also shows 68 percent of bets coming in on the over.
St. Louis has been a fantastic under bet all season with a record of 35-24. While Dallas is a more high-powered team and is at home, a hot goaltender like the Blues’ Carter Hutton is capable of shutting down any team. For the record, the Stars have hit the over in 31 of 55 games.
All three meetings this season have seen the home team win as St. Louis prevailed 4-2 and 3-0 on its home ice, while Dallas won 4-2 in the last meeting on Dec. 29. OVerall, the Blues are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings and the over is 6-2-2. St. Louis comes in on a two-game losing streak, but is 6-4 in the last 10 games. The under has gone 6-4 in that stretch, although the over has hit in four of the last five contests. Dallas had a five-game win streak snapped with a 6-0 home loss to Vancouver its last time out. The Stars are 7-3 in their last 10 games and the over has gone 5-4-1.
My gut feeling is to play the under here as the Stars struggled offensively in their last game and now face a much stiffer defensive challenge. The Blues are great at keeping scores down and scoring timely goals. If you want to take a shot on the Blues as an underdog it’s not the worst play, but I do feel a lot safer picking the under here.
