Sunday NHL Opening Odds
(The Spread) – There are plenty of NHL games to wet the appetite Sunday as eight games are scattered throughout the day on the schedule.
One of the highlights on Sunday is the earliest starting contest as the New York Rangers (33-26-4) will play host to the Tampa Bay Lightning (36-18-7) at 1:00PM EST. According to oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com, the Rangers have been listed as -135 favorites and the over-under is 5.5.
The latest trends show that Tampa Bay is 34-26-1 on over-unders this season and New York is 24-35-4 on over-unders. The Lightning are scoring 3.1 goals per game and also allowing 3.1 goals a contest, while the Rangers have scored 2.8 goals per game this season and given up an average of 2.5.
New York has won two contests in a row including an impressive 6-0 shellacking at Washington on Friday. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay has also been solid as of late with two consecutive victories of their own, the last of which being a 2-1 home win Friday over New Jersey.
Steven Stamkos paces the Lightning offensively as he has poured in 41 goals and dished out 38 assists in 61 contests. Teammate Martin St. Louis has 23 goals and 50 assists. On the Rangers’ side, Brandon Dubinsky leads the way with 43 points and Marian Gaborik has 38 points.
In other NHL action, the New Jersey Devils are at the Florida Panthers for a 5:00PM EST start. New Jersey is a -130 favorite and the over-under is 5. The Calgary Flames host the St. Louis Blues at 8:00PM EST. Calgary is listed as a -150 favorite and the over-under is set at 5.5.
