The Washington Capitals have been known throughout the NHL as being very potent offensively the past several years leading up to this one. But lately the Capitals have struggled to score goals and superstar Alexander Ovechkin is having a subpar season for his standards.
On Saturday, Washington will try to reverse its recent scoring woes as it is home against Los Angeles for a 12:30PM EST start. Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Capitals -145 favorites, while the over-under is currently at 5.5.
Washington (29-16-10) was shut out for the eighth time this season Tuesday against San Jose, falling by a 2-0 final. Ovechkin, who scored 50 goals in 72 games last season, has only 20 in 55 contests in 2010-11. Making matters worse, he still leads the squad in goals with those 20 as the Capitals’ overall scoring is severely down from a year ago.
According to the latest trends, Los Angeles is 19-33-2 on over-unders this season and Washington is 14-39-2 on over-unders. Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick is 24-14-2 with a 2.13 goals-against average.
In other NHL action, the Chicago Blackhawks are at the Phoenix Coyotes for an 8:00PM EST start. Chicago is a -115 favorite and the over-under is 5.5. The Minnesota Wild are home against the St. Louis Blues at 9:00PM EST. Minnesota is a -130 favorite with an over-under of 5.5.
