Canadiens double up Lightning
Montreal earned a 4-2 victory over NHL-best Tampa Bay Tuesday night to improve to 43-29-8 on the season. The Canadiens evened the score at 1-1 with 7:37 left in the first period on a goal by Nate Thompson assisted by Paul Byron and Jordie Benn. After the Lightning again took a 2-1 lead in the second period, Montreal tied it with a Joel Armia goal with assists going to Tomas Tatar and Phillip Danault. Artturi Lehkonen gave the Canadiens a 3-2 advantage with 12:13 remaining in the third periods on assists courtesy of Victor Mete and Andrew Shaw. Max Domi scored an insurance goal, his 28th of the season, midway through the third on assists by Lehkonen and Benn. Carey Price surrendered two goals on 24 shots in the winning effort.
Caps upended by Panthers
Washington had its four-game winning streak snapped Monday night with a 5-3 defeat at Florida. The Capitals (47-25-8) trailed 4-0 through two periods and their late rally attempt fell short. Evgeny Kuznetsov put Washington on the board with 9:05 remaining on his 21st goal of the season off a John Carlson assist. Nicklas Backstrom pulled the Capitals to within 4-2 on his 22nd goal of the season at the 3:35 mark on assists by T.J. Oshie and Alex Ovechkin. Jakub Vrana made it a 4-3 game with 2:21 remaining on assists from Oshie and Matt Niskanen. The Panthers put it away with an empty-net goal as 27 seconds were left on the clock. Pheonix Copley allowed four goals on 33 shots to take the loss.
NHL Betting Trends
Montreal
The Canadiens are 6-2 in their last eight games overall. Montreal is 2-5 in its last seven road games.
Washington
The Capitals are 6-0 in their last six Thursday games. Washington is 4-1 in its last five versus the Eastern Conference.
Prediction:
This will be a tough one for sure for the Canadiens, but if they can take down the Lightning no matter the venue they have a solid shot at beating Washington on the road. With the road team dominating this series for the last number of years, I’m going to take a shot on the underdogs here as they come into this contest in good form and the Caps have proven to be inconsistent this season after winning the Stanley Cup a year ago.
