Blackhawks hold off Maple Leafs
Chicago earned a 5-4 home win Sunday night over Toronto to improve to 6-7-4 on the season. Patrick Kane gave the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead at the 14:42 mark of the first period on a goal assisted by Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Strome. Kirby Dach made it 2-0 with eight minutes left in the first with assists going to Andrew Shaw and Calvin de Haan. Kane pushed it to 3-0 10 seconds later off assists from DeBrincat and Strome. After the Maple Leafs trimmed it to a two-goal game with 3:31 to go in the first, Chicago answered a minute later on a Jonathan Toews power play goal assisted by DeBrincat and Kane. Toronto cut it to a 4-3 game in the third period before Brandon Saad gave the Blackhawks a little more cushion on a goal assisted by Toews and Drake Caggiula. Toronto scored its final goal with 42 seconds remaining. Robin Lehner picked up the win between the pipes as he stopped 53 shots on 57 attempts.
Golden Knights drop third straight
Las Vegas lost 3-2 at Detroit Sunday night to drop to 9-7-3 on the season. Jonathan Marchessault gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 advantage with 3:33 to play in the first period with assists courtesy of Reilly Smith and Shea Theodore. The Red Wings tied it at 1-1 in the final minute of the first period, but Las Vegas took the lead back with 10:56 on the clock in the second period on a Max Pacioretty goal off assists from Nicolas Roy and Ryan Reaves. Detroit scored twice in the final 10:03 to overtake the Golden Knights. Malcolm Subban allowed three goals on 19 shots in the defeat.
NHL Betting Trends
The Blackhawks are 8-0 in their last eight Wednesday games. Chicago is 10-4 in its last 14 games played on two days of rest.
The Golden Knights are 12-5 in their last 17 games played on two days of rest. Las Vegas is 1-5 in its last six games overall.
Las Vegas has struggled lately, but will have top goal Marc-Andre Fleury back in net for this one and is still the better team by a considerable margin. The Blackhawks struggle considerably on the back end and I expect the Golden Knights to take advantage with plenty of offense to overwhelm the visitors.
