Bruins drop third straight
Boston fell by a 5-2 score Monday night at Ottawa to drop to 20-5-6 on the season. The Bruins trailed 2-0 in the first period before Patrice Bergeron put them on the board at the 2:22 mark off assists from David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand. The Senators extended their advantage to 4-1 in the third period, but a power play goal from Jake DeBrusk with 2:15 remaining on assists by Pastrnak and Marchand trimmed it to 4-2. Ottawa added its final goal with one second left. Tuukka Rask allowed three goals on 26 shots in the defeat.
Caps have six-game win streak snapped
Washington lost 5-2 at home Monday night versus Columbus to fall to 22-5-5 on the season. The Capitals trailed 2-0 until Alex Ovechkin cut the deficit in half 40 seconds into the third period off assists from Dmitry Orlov and Nicklas Backstrom. The Blue Jackets extended it to 4-1 midway through the third, but Backstrom made it 4-2 with 2:06 remaining on a tally assisted by Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov. Columbus added its final goal 16 seconds later. Braden Holtby surrendered four goals on 37 shots in the losing effort.
NHL Betting Trends
Boston
The Bruins are 4-1 in their last five road games. Boston is 20-8 in its last 28 games versus the Eastern Conference.
Washington
The Capitals are 6-1 in their last seven games as a favorite. Washington is 5-1 in its last six Wednesday games.
Prediction:
Both teams are coming in off one day rest and a disappointing loss, perhaps because they were looking ahead to this showdown. The Capitals are 7-1 in their last eight home meetings versus Boston and I think their home success continues here. Washington is playing at another level right now and its offense can be nearly unstoppable when its clicking, which is very often. Home ice is playing a huge role for me here because these two squads are very evenly matched.
