NHL Eastern Conference Odds to Win
LAS VEGAS, NV (The Spread) – The odds are with the Tampa Bay Lightning to repeat as Eastern Conference champions in the NHL next season.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, the Lightning are 15/4 favorites to represent the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup Finals again next season. The team that Tampa Bay beat in the conference finals last season, the New York Rangers, have the next best odds to represent the East in the Cup Finals at 19/4 while the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins are both 6/1, respectively.
Despite the odds being in their favor, recent history is actually against the Lightning repeating as conference champions. That’s because the Eastern Conference has had a new representative in the Stanley Cup Finals every year since 2010. The last two team win back-to-back Eastern Conference titles came in 2008-09 and 2009-10 when the Penguins accomplished the feat. Since that point, the Flyers (2010), Bruins (2011), Devils (2012), Bruins again (2013), Rangers (2014) and Lightning (2015) have taken turns as conference champs.
Continuing with the current odds, the Islanders are 7/1 to win the Eastern Conference this season while the Capitals are 15/2 and the Blue Jackets and Red Wings are both 12/1. The Bruins, meanwhile, are 15/1, while the Senators are 18/1 and the Panthers are 23/1. A complete list of odds is below.
