Sabres bottle up Coyotes
Buffalo secured a second straight win Thursday night at home as it downed Arizona by a count of 3-1. The Sabres (19-9-4) scored the game’s first two goals, with Casey Mittelstadt opening the scoring in the first period on an assist from Conor Sheary. Jeff Skinner made it 2-0 a few minutes later with his 22nd goal of the season as Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhardt assisted. The Coyotes trimmed the lead in half later in the first period and after a scoreless second, Buffalo added an insurance tally by Evan Rodrigues in the third period. Carter Hutton stopped 25 of 26 shots for Buffalo in the winning effort.
Caps roll to third straight win
Washington secured a 6-2 home win Tuesday night over the Red Wings to improve to 18-9-3 on the season. The Capitals scored three times in the first period and twice in the second to take a commanding 5-2 advantage. Alexander Ovechkin paced Washington with a hat trick, while Nicklas Backstrom dished out four assists. Brett Connolly, Travis Boyd and T.J. Oshie each added a goal in the winning effort. Evgeny Kutznetsov and John Carlson registered two assists apiece. Braden Holtby made 35 saves on 37 shots.
NHL Betting Trends
Buffalo
The Sabres are 0-4 in their last four games versus the Eastern Conference. Buffalo is 6-1 in its last seven games playing on one day of rest.
Washington
The Capitals are 7-0 in their last seven playing against the Eastern Conference. Washington is 10-2 in its last 12 games overall.
Prediction:
Buffalo is a team that has played very well at times, but I’m not buying as a serious contender just yet. I’d imagine the Sabres are a year or two away from that and a lot of their wins have had some luck involved. Washington is rolling right now and I think the hosts are the smart play here.
