NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Tennessee punter Craig Hentrich will have more tests on his back, so the Titans will hold onto Josh Miller until they know when their veteran is healthy enough to punt again.
Hentrich was deactivated in Monday night’s 31-14 victory in New Orleans, the first game he hadn’t punted in since the 2004 opener. He was added to the Titans’ injury report last Friday and listed as questionable after not practicing.
“We’re still doing tests right now,” coach Jeff Fisher said Tuesday when asked about whether Hentrich might need surgery. “We haven’t ruled anything out at this point.”
The Titans signed Miller on Saturday, and he punted three times for an average of 40.3 yards.
“Josh did a great job considering the time he was here, the time he had to work with (snapper) Kenny (Amato) and (placekicker) Rob (Bironas). The way he held, he was a real pro about the whole thing, and punted very well, knew exactly what we needed to do,” Fisher said.
A 14-year veteran, Hentrich has more career punts (701) in his 10 seasons with this franchise than anyone. He ranks third among active punters in career net average (36.8), behind Matt Turk and Brian Moorman.
