DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -Zach Thomas still has his sense of humor despite missing four games this season because of a concussion and related symptoms.
The seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker said he remains sidelined because he’s lightheaded at times. His cognitive test results are fine, he said.
“It’s got nothing to do with the thinking,” Thomas said after sitting out practice again Thursday. “Even though I sound a little slow and dumb right now, that’s just how I am. When I took that test, I lowered the standard.”
Thomas has been sidelined since he was involved in a car accident driving home from a loss to the New England Patriots on Oct. 21. He missed two games in September with a concussion.
The 34-year-old Thomas has yet to be ruled out of Sunday’s game at Philadelphia and said he hopes to return this season. Despite a recent history of concussions and migraines, he plans to play next year.
Doctors have said he must go a week without being lightheaded before he can return.
“I feel like it will go away,” he said. “I’ve just got to have time. … I don’t want it to be problematic in the future, so I’m being patient, but I’m not a patient person.”
