HOUSTON (AP) -Andre Johnson led the NFL in yards receiving last year to help Houston’s offense rank third in the league.
But Johnson and others agree that the key to improving this season isn’t throwing more or him putting up gaudy numbers. It’s improving the running game, starting with Sunday’s opener against the Jets.
Quarterback Matt Schaub says establishing the running game “opens things up down the field” and makes it easier for Johnson and the other receivers.
The Texans are expecting more from Steve Slaton this season after he led all rookies with a franchise record 1,282 yards last season. He’ll have help this year with the return of Chris Brown, a big back who missed the entire 2008 season with an injury.
