PITTSBURGH (AP) – Landry Jones is keeping his job.
The Pittsburgh Steelers decided to keep the third-string quarterback on Saturday despite a lackluster preseason. Pittsburgh also held on to wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey while trimming its roster to 53 players.
Linebacker Chris Carter and veteran offensive lineman Guy Whimper were released. The Steelers also parted ways with two rookie draft picks: cornerback Shaquille Richardson, a fifth-round selection, and tight end Rob Blanchflower, a seventh-round choice.
Second-year defensive lineman Nick Williams was let go. So was undrafted rookie free agent linebacker Howard Jones. Jones returned a fumble for a touchdown in the preseason opener against the New York Giants and recovered another to set up the game-winning field goal against Buffalo.
