OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -Andrew Walter was scheduled to start at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders on Sunday in place of the injured JaMarcus Russell.
Russell, who was slowed this week by tendinitis in his right knee, was listed as the third quarterback against the Carolina Panthers.
Walter made his first start since Dec. 23, 2006, when he lost 20-9 to Kansas City. Walter made eight starts that season, winning two. He has played in only one game since, relieving Josh McCown in the fourth quarter of a loss at Green Bay last December.
Running back Darren McFadden was also inactive for the third straight week for the Raiders because of a turf toe injury and defensive end Derrick Burgess missed his fifth straight game with a triceps injury.
Linebacker Ricky Brown (groin), receiver Ronald Curry, fullback Jason Davis, and offensive linemen James Marten and John Wade were also on the inactive list for the Raiders.
The inactive players for the Panthers were receivers Dwayne Jarrett and Kenneth Moore, offensive linemen Frank Omiyale and Mackenzy Bernadeau, defensive back C.J. Wilson, linebacker James Anderson and defensive lineman Darwin Walker. Matt Moore was the third quarterback.
