FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) – Aaron Rodgers and Mark Sanchez took different paths to starting jobs in the NFL while following the same huge set of footprints.
Their common link: They’re the only quarterbacks who can say they replaced Brett Favre.
Rodgers took over in Green Bay in 2008 following Favre’s retirement and then bitter divorce from the Packers. Sanchez became the Jets’ quarterback a year later, after Favre stopped in New York for a season before briefly retiring again.
Rodgers and Sanchez have stepped in and become franchise quarterbacks themselves.
Rodgers is one of the league’s most dangerous passers, throwing for 4,000 yards two straight years. Meanwhile, Sanchez has improved greatly following a shaky rookie season.
