ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -Bruce Gradkowski is doubtful to start at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders this week because of sprained ligaments in both knees.
Coach Tom Cable said Monday he won’t know Gradkowski’s status until Wednesday. Cable says if Gradkowski can’t play, he will “do what’s best for this team,” which could be starting third-stringer Charlie Frye instead of former starter JaMarcus Russell.
Russell replaced Gradkowski in the second half of Oakland’s 34-13 loss to Washington on Sunday. He led the Raiders to three points and only 39 yards in the half. Russell was sacked six times and showed little improvement from the play that led to his benching earlier this season.
Oakland (4-9) had won two of the first three games started by Gradkowski.
