NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -A hometown celebration for Michael Vick in Virginia has been postponed.
An organizer of the “Michael Vick Community Celebration” scheduled for Saturday says the job-hunting former NFL quarterback informed him Monday he could not appear at the Newport News event because of a conflict.
President Andrew Shannon of the Peninsula chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference says Vick told him he had a commitment with the Humane Society of the United States. He did not know if the event was open to the public.
A spokesman for the Humane Society did not immediately return a telephone message left by The Associated Press.
Vick has been conditionally reinstated in the NFL after completing a 23-month federal sentence for running a dogfighting ring.
