WASHINGTON (AP) -Washington quarterback Donovan McNabb has gone from getting benched to getting a contract extension from the Redskins, his agent says.
Fletcher Smith said Monday that the 33-year-old McNabb has agreed to a five-year, $78 million contract extension with the Redskins, with $40 million of the deal guaranteed.
ESPN first reported on the deal.
After acquiring McNabb in the offseason, the Redskins benched him late in Washington’s loss on Oct. 31 to the Detroit Lions. Still, McNabb was expected to start Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Smith said the benching had no effect on negotiations and McNabb is “happy to be a Redskin.”
