FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -Matt Leinart is taking his first preseason game seriously.
While veterans will be shaking off the rust and the young players will try to impress the coaches at full speed, Leinart will be looking to build confidence with his teammates.
Saturday’s game against Houston will start Leinart’s second stint as Arizona’s season-opening starter. The first go-round didn’t go so well and five up-and-down seasons have left the 27-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner still trying to prove himself in the NFL.
Leinart started one game the past two seasons as an understudy to Kurt Warner and is out to show he has the leadership skills to build on the successful run his predecessor started.
