FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) – Opening statements are delayed in the murder trial of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez while the judge sorts out some last-minute jury issues.
One juror was late getting to court Thursday, and another juror sent a note to the judge. The judge is now individually questioning jurors.
Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to killing semiprofessional football player Odin Lloyd in 2013. Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee. He was found shot to death in an industrial park near Hernandez’s home, not far from Gillette Stadium.
Hernandez arrived in court Thursday with his mother, brother and fiancee sitting behind him.
Lloyd’s family is also in court.
The expected opening statements in the trial come just days before Hernandez’s old team plays in the Super Bowl on Sunday.
