FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -New York Jets linebacker David Harris was officially ruled out Friday for the team’s game against St. Louis this weekend.
Harris, who leads the Jets with 52 tackles, reportedly had surgery on his injured groin this week and is expected to miss at least two to three weeks. He hasn’t practiced the past two weeks after being hurt in the second quarter of the Jets’ 28-24 victory over Kansas City on Oct. 26.
Coach Eric Mangini has declined to address the injury or reports of a surgical procedure, other than to say it appeared “it’s a longer shot” for him to play this week.
Veteran David Bowens is expected to start in Harris’ place for the second straight game. He had five tackles and a sack against Buffalo last Sunday.
Safety Eric Smith and tight end Bubba Franks were also ruled out for the game against the Rams.
Like Harris, Smith hasn’t practiced the last two weeks following his third head injury in a four-game span. Abram Elam, who returned an interception 92 yards for a touchdown against the Bills, will likely start in Smith’s place again.
a hip against Oakland on Oct. 19, spent time on the stationary bike this week, but didn’t participate in 11-on-11 drills.
Kicker Mike Nugent, out since injuring his right thigh at Miami in Week 1, was listed as questionable after being limited for the third straight day.
Also limited, but listed as probable were wide receivers Laveranues Coles (thigh) and Jerricho Cotchery (shoulder), and linebacker Cody Spencer (shoulder).
