FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) – Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan says New York is not opposed to trading up – or back – in the NFL draft next week.
The Jets currently hold the No. 6 pick and Maccagnan, preparing for his first draft with the team, says he will contact the five teams ahead of New York to gauge what they might be looking for as compensation in any trade.
Maccagnan insists that doesn’t mean the Jets are looking to move up, potentially to draft a quarterback such as Florida State’s Jameis Winston or Oregon’s Marcus Mariota. He adds that ”philosophically,” he’d like to have additional picks – which could come from trading down.
The Jets have six selections in this year’s draft, which kicks off Thursday night.
