ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) – Buffalo Bills second-year quarterback EJ Manuel is getting a clean slate under Greg Roman.
That doesn’t mean the team’s new offensive coordinator is ready to name his starter anytime soon.
Manuel along with practice squad member Jeff Tuel, and however many quarterbacks the Bills add this offseason will have to prove themselves on the field, Roman said during his introductory news conference Tuesday.
The Bills have a new coaching staff under Rex Ryan, who took over after Doug Marrone stepped down on Dec. 31 following a 9-7 season. And yet, the team faces a familiar concern at quarterback.
Manuel went 2-2 last season before being benched in favor of journeyman Kyle Orton, who intends to retire this offseason.
Buffalo’s new defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman was also introduced.
