SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -An offensive lineman on the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad required medical attention Thursday after becoming dehydrated during a workout.
Paramedics treated Damane Duckett at the 49ers’ training complex after he cramped up during an afternoon workout, spokesman Aaron Salkin said. An ambulance and a fire truck responded to the complex, and medical personnel wheeled a stretcher through the front doors.
Salkin said Duckett would be taken to a hospital for precautionary evaluation, but was alert and responsive.
Duckett, a fourth-year pro from East Carolina, spent his first three NFL seasons as a defensive lineman with Carolina, the New York Giants and San Francisco. The 49ers turned him into an offensive tackle this year, keeping him on their practice squad.
San Francisco offensive lineman Thomas Herrion collapsed and died of a heart attack following an exhibition game in Denver on Aug. 20, 2005.
Running back Michael Robinson was treated at Stanford Hospital on July 31 after he became dehydrated during a training camp workout. The former Penn State quarterback required several bags of intravenous fluid for rehydration.
